Description

Arrowroot is a fine starchy powder used to thicken liquids and sauces. It can be used in a similar way to cornflour to thicken gravies and give sauces a glossy finish. It’s naturally gluten free and has twice the thickening power of wheat flour. Use it to add body to a casserole, soup or cream sauce.

Like cornflour, arrowroot should be made into a slurry with cool water before being added to hot dishes. Skipping this step can result in lumps.

Arrowroot can also be used to make desserts and jellies. It creates a clear gel that doesn’t break down when mixed with acidic fruit juices.
