Description

Rizzoli Cantabrian Sea Anchovy Fillets with Chili Pepper in Olive Oil are large, meaty anchovy fillets from the Cantabrian Sea, cured with salt, packed in olive oil, and given a small kick from chili pepper.

They have that deep anchovy savouriness, but the texture is what makes them stand out. The fillets are thick, neat, and tender, with a pink-brown colour and a clean heat at the end.

  • Cantabrian anchovies, hand processed and matured
  • Large fillets with a firm, tender bite
  • Olive oil, salt, and chili pepper
  • Brilliant on crostini or antipasti plates

Serve on toasted bread with butter, roasted peppers, tomatoes, or soft cheese. Also lovely melted into spaghetti with garlic, crumbs, and parsley.

Meet the maker: Rizzoli

The Rizzoli family are master anchovy curers. The company has been passed down through five generations of the same family.

Perhaps surprisingly, they are based in Parma, the land-locked city more famous for its ham. However, Parma is also on the ancient salt road from the port of Genoa, and (in 1892) was the epicentre of Italy's tomato canning revolution. Founding brothers Luigi and Emilio Rizzoli spotted potential to combine the booming canning industry with the city's trade routes and launched what has become one of Italy's best-known anchovy brands.

The signature product was born in that first year: anchovies in spicy sauce. Rizzoli Emanuelli still describes the sauce as a secret family recipe.
