Description

The DeOrtegas Sexta Esencia organic extra virgin olive oil is a blend of three olives - Hojiblanca, Picual and Cornicabra - grown on one family estate in Yecla, in the Murcia region of Spain. The Ortega family has been growing olives for more than 30 years, and built their own mill back in 2008 so they could press the fruit themselves, on the same day it's picked. The oil is cold-extracted below 27°C, which keeps the aroma intact: artichoke, tomato leaf, fresh-cut grass, a touch of flower. Pour it over warm toast and you'll smell it before you taste it. The flavour is fresh and well-balanced, with a gentle bitterness and a small peppery kick at the back of the throat that lingers after you swallow. It comes in a 500ml bottle, already boxed as a gift, so it's ready to hand over just as it is.

  • Blend of Hojiblanca, Picual and Cornicabra olives
  • Cold-extracted below 27°C, no refining
  • Low acidity at 0.17%, from early harvest fruit
  • Polyphenols measured at 462.3mg/kg after harvest
  • Grown across 170 hectares and 33,000 trees

Good on grilled vegetables, white fish, or spooned over white beans while they're still warm. We'd keep it for food that doesn't need much else going on; good bread, a ripe tomato, something plain enough that the oil gets to do the talking.
