Description

DeOrtegas Frantoio Extra Virgin Olive Oil in Bird Gift Box

This one comes from Frantoio olives, a variety that started life in Tuscany and found a second home in the organic groves of Murcia, Spain. DeOrtegas picks the fruit straight from the tree, never from the ground, and presses it within six hours, below 27°C. The oil comes out intensely green and full of life, rather than flat.

Open the bottle and you get fresh-cut grass and citrus first, then something unexpected: slightly fruity banana notes. Taste it and it moves from fruity to herbal to a slow, building pepper at the back of the throat. It's medium to medium-high in intensity, so it has presence without taking over a dish.

  • 100% Frantoio olives, organically grown in Murcia
  • Cold pressed within six hours of harvest
  • Low acidity, around 0.1% oleic acid
  • First Prize, Light Category, Expoliva 2021
  • Best Organic Olive Oil, Japan Olive Oil Prize 2021

Use it raw where the flavour can actually show up: drizzled over toast, worked into a dressing, finished over grilled vegetables or a bowl of soup. Save the cooking oils for the pan and keep this one for the moments right before serving.

The Ortega family has been growing olives organically for over 30 years before they opened their own mill in 2008. They still farm, harvest, press, and bottle everything themselves, across three family farms. This bottle comes in a gift box with a bird design, so it's ready to hand over as a gift, or just to make your own kitchen shelf look a bit more interesting.
