Meet the maker: Ziccat

Ziccat has been making chocolate in Turin since 1958, with a new chapter beginning in 2014 when master chocolatiers Alexis Rosso and Lorenzo Melchiorre took over alongside other partners. Melchiorre brought experience from ElBulli, while Rosso’s long-standing involvement with Ziccat connects the business to its earlier years.

Piedmont’s chocolate traditions remain at the heart of the workshop on Via Bardonecchia. Its classic gianduiotti are handcrafted with Piedmont IGP hazelnuts, and its hazelnut cremini are handmade too. For anyone curious about what goes on behind the counter, Ziccat welcomes booked groups into the workshop to watch chocolate shapes being made, chocolates being coated and gifts being packaged by hand—with tastings along the way.
