The Leach Pottery Tenmoku Black Stoneware Teapot is a 1.1-litre handmade teapot from Leach Pottery in St Ives, Cornwall. Its iron-rich Tenmoku glaze is predominantly black and can break to rusty red and red-brown around rims, edges and thinner areas.

    In 1920, a British and a Japanese potter stood on a hill above St Ives and decided to build a kiln. Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada had just sailed from Japan, carrying ideas from Japanese, Chinese, Korean and English traditions with them. They called it an East/West exchange. They sourced clay from nearby: earthenware from St Erth, stoneware from Dorset, ball clay from Devon. They burned bracken to make wood-ash glazes.

    By the late 1930s, Bernard's son David joined the business and in 1946 the first Standard Ware catalogue appeared. It soon became an iconic collection pottery. Soon, artists travelled from across the world to train at St Ives, among them Michael Cardew, Norah Braden, Katharine Pleydell-Bouverie, and William "Bill" Marshall.
