Troyan Chestnut Soup Bowl, 16cm

Description

This Troyan soup bowl is made with traditional Bulgarian techniques of drip glazing and patterning.  Made from the Troyan region’s distinctive red clay, and hand-glazed in traditional patterns. You'll find these designs on tables across Bulgaria, in restaurants and home kitchens.

This Bulgarian soup bowl is perfect for broths and gazpacho. You can also use it to serve oatmeal or strawberries and cream.

The bowl is a warm shade of brown with colourful waves on the outside. On the inside, a floral design is revealed once the bowl is empty.

This soup bowl is part of a collection of Bulgarian pottery. It’s produced in the city of Troyan, which is famous for its ceramics. The vibrant colours and unique designs are an eye-catching alternative to traditional tableware.

The designs are inspired by Slavic and Thracian patterns from the 19th century. Every artist has their own style, so colours and patterns vary from item to item.
