Bordallo Pinheiro Pink Cabbage Salad Bowl, 29.5cm

Description

Bordallo Pinheiro’s pink cabbage salad bowl has a warm, rosy hue. It’s made from earthenware and finished with a shiny glaze. The realistic vein detail is painstakingly applied by hand.

The bowl resembles a frilly pink cabbage leaf. It’s a lovely way to bring the beauty of nature indoors. Use it to serve salads at dinner parties and family meals. You can fill it with dressed leaves, potato salad or buttered green beans.

Bordallo Pinheiro tableware is hand-painted, so no two bowls are the same.

Cabbage tableware, or cabbageware, dates back to the 18th century. It was particularly fashionable in the US in the 1960s. Now, cabbageware is enjoying another surge of popularity. This is driven by the maximalist trend which embraces bold colours, textures and patterns.

About Bordallo Pinheiro

The Portuguese ceramics studio, Bordallo Pinheiro, was set up in 1884. Brothers Raphael and Feliciano Bordallo Pinheiro started the venture, and many of the pieces today are still made to Raphael’s designs. In only twenty-one years, Bordallo Pinheiro’s bold, artistic ceramics gained international recognition. Raphael took inspiration from the flora and fauna around his home town of Caldas, as well as drawing on ideas from the Renaissance and from the Art Nouveau & Naturalism movements.
