Pancake Day

Shrove Tuesday falls on February 13th 2024. So it’s time to start thinking about ideas for a sweet or savoury pancake day feast. Whether you’re cooking for friends or family, a couple of simple ingredient upgrades will ensure your pancakes are anything but ordinary.

Sweet Pancake Toppings


Mymoune Rose Syrup, 250ml

Rose Syrup, Clotted Cream and Edible Flowers

If you're a fan of floral, fragrant flavours, this is the topping for you. The rose syrup adds a delicate, perfumed strawberry-like flavour alongside the thick, rich clotted cream. Top with edible flowers for a rainbow of colour.


Pure Sicilian Pistachio Paste, 180g

Pistachio Paste, Ricotta and Orange Blossom

Pistachio paste or pistachio butter adds a vibrant swoop of verdant green and an earthy flavour when spread thinly on top of a crepe. Why not try the flavour combinations often used in qatayef (a sweet dumpling commonly eaten during Ramadan) and make a fluffy ricotta filling flavoured with pistachio and a fragrant syrup of orange blossom water.


Piemonte Hazelnut Gianduja Spread, 200g

Gianduja

Sometimes you just can’t beat chocolate, and nothing is more luxurious than our chocolate and hazelnut spread. ‘Gianduja’ has been around for centuries, originating in Turin during Napoleon's reign, and once you’ve tried it you’ll never go back to Nutella. Made with 50% IGP hazelnuts it has an incredibly delicate nutty taste in a silky smooth spread.


Halen Mon Campfire Salted Caramel, 200g

Caramelised Bananas and Salted Caramel

Caramelise your bananas with a sprinkle of brown sugar before drizzling over some of Halen Mon’s Campfire Salted Caramel Spread. This finely balanced spread is made with smoked Anglesey sea salt, which brings balance to the rich, butterscotch notes of the caramel. Serve with a big scoop of ice cream or crème fraiche.

Date Syrup, 450g

Date Syrup with Salty Feta Cheese

Try whipping feta with some Greek yoghurt for a smooth, light texture before using it to top pancakes along with date syrup - the salty cheese and sweet, toffee like syrup are perfect partners. Finish with a flourish of tahini and lemon juice, and a handful of toasted sesame seeds.


LGM Crispy Chilli in Oil

Eggs with Crispy Chilli Oil

If you’re a fan of fried eggs on your pancake, a spoonful of Lao Gan Ma’s crispy chilli oil will bring heat and umami from the fermented soybeans and dried chillies. Add some finely sliced spring onions or chives to finish.


Terre Exotique Voatsiperifery Pepper, 50g

Terre Exotique Peppers with Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese

Spread freshly made pancakes with silky cream cheese, top with folds of oak smoked salmon and garnish with one of Terre Exotique’s unique crushed peppers. La Favorita Sundried Tomato Cream, 130g

Sundried Tomato Cream, Mozzarella and Basil

La Favorita’s sun dried tomato cream brings the freshness and sun-drenched flavour of Italian tomatoes to your table at any time of year. Spread the aromatic paste thickly over pancakes and top with torn mozzarella or burrata and basil for a Caprese style dish.


Escuminac Great Harvest Medium Maple Syrup, 200ml

Bacon, Escuminac Maple Syrup and Kimchi Roasted Sesame Seeds

The flavours of dates, butterscotch and brown sugar in Escuminac Great Harvest syrup contrast the salty bacon; drizzle liberally over crisp streaky rashers and pile onto buttered pancakes for an elegant Shrove Tuesday brunch or dinner. Add a generous sprinkle of kimchi roasted sesame seeds, for a hit of chilli heat and nutty flavour.
