Meet the maker: Babbi

Babbi’s confectionery story began in the quieter winter months of the Italian gelato trade. Attilio Babbi founded the business in Cesena in 1952, making cones, wafers and ingredients for artisan gelato makers. When winter brought a slower pace, he turned his attention to confectionery alongside the gelato business. The result was Viennesi and Waferini: the wafer specialities that launched Babbi’s sweet-making venture in 1958. Now based in Bertinoro, in Italy’s Romagna region, Babbi remains a family business spanning four generations. Its gelato roots are still very much part of its identity, with wafer-making expertise shared across its professional and confectionery ranges.
