Soba & Buckwheat Noodles
CloseSoba noodles are a staple of Japanese cuisine and are renowned for their unique flavour and nutritional benefits.
Soba noodles refer to noodles with a high proportion of buckwheat. Contrary to its name, buckwheat isn’t a form of wheat at all, but a gluten-free grain, making soba noodles made from 100% buckwheat a good choice for those on a gluten-free diet.
How to use soba noodles?
Soba or buckwheat noodles have a distinct nutty flavour and are delicious served hot or cold. Try soba noodles in a steaming bowl of comforting broth, or chilled and tossed in a soy, mirin and sesame dressing for a refreshing summer supper or packed lunch.
Which noodles should I buy?
Firstly you’ll want to decide the proportion of buckwheat flour you want in your noodle. Buckwheat has no gluten, so a very high buckwheat flour noodle is not very springy, however that firmer texture if often very sought after in Japanese cooking.
Our range also includes pink soba noodles with plum extract that will brighten up your bento box and pale green chasoba noodles, which are soba noodles with added matcha green tea.
Hugely popular in Japan, chasoba noodles are wonderful in miso soup or simply tossed in ponzu and sprinkled with chopped spring onions.
