Microplane first started manufacturing wood-working tools. Then, in 1994, a Canadian housewife used a Microplane tool to zest an orange. She was frustrated that her kitchen graters were not up to the task of neatly removing the zest without tearing, catching or sticking. The super-sharp blades of the Microplane effortlessly shaved the orange zest. It was then that Microplane crossed over from the workshop to the kitchen, and they’ve been a fixture ever since.
