Panettone French Toast

We've combined buttery panettone with French toast to create an indulgent start to your day.

The light Italian cake - rich with dried fruit - soaks in a spiced-egg mixture before frying for a golden, caramelised crust. Serve with plenty of honey.

Why Panettone Works for French Toast

Panettone’s soft, enriched crumb soaks up custard beautifully, while its citrus peel and raisins bring bursts of flavour. Using it instead of brioche or sourdough gives French toast a festive Italian twist that feels extra special.

Ingredients for panettone French toast Serves: 1

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • Splash of milk
  • 2 slices of panettone or filone
  • Approx. 20g unsalted butter
  • Honey, to serve

Method for panettone French toast

  1. In a shallow dish, whisk the eggs with cinnamon and a splash of milk.
  2. Soak the panettone slices in the egg mixture for 5 minutes, turning them halfway.
  3. Melt a generous knob of butter in a non-stick frying pan, and fry the panettone slices until golden brown on both sides.
  4. Serve immediately with a generous drizzle of honey.

  • French toast made with Panettone is my #1 ‘sometimes treat’. If the hiss of the espresso machine doesn’t get you going on a cold winter morn add this fabulous recipe and watch the smiles! Thanks for sharing!

  • Not had much luck with French toast but this one works every time and is the perfect (the only I would say) way to use up left over panettone and colomba.
