Membrillo or quince paste is a luxurious Spanish thick fruit jam. It comes into its own as an accompaniment to cheeses: ideal sliced and served on a cheeseboard with Manchego, cut into cubes in a salad with a sharp dressing and blue cheese, or served with a little apple and grilled cheese as a canape. The quince membrillo is also beautiful with pâté or foie gras.
This quince paste is made in Spain by producer Emily, who are based in the heart of the rich Mediterranean orchard where they grow their fruit. They produce their quince paste to a traditional recipe used for hundreds of years. The quince paste is made from only the best quinces simmered together with sugar, to produce the richest tasting membrillo, which is also naturally high in fibre.
