A heatwave is a great opportunity to give ice cream making a whirl. And even if you're already a pro, there's sure to be a couple of flavours you haven't yet tried in the list below.

Continuing in the Japanese theme, black sesame ice cream is a surprising rich grey colour with a delectable nutty intensity. Served with a black sesame brittle it makes a fantastic after dinner treat. Just finely grind sesame seeds and a little salt before adding to your ice cream base.

Tropical coconut and vanilla, rich almond warmth, and a hint of sour cherry — you'd be forgiven for thinking this tonka bean ice cream recipe has many different ingredients. Yet the numerous flavours are all from a small grating of tonka bean.
