Description

Red rice has a nutty, slightly sweet flavour. It’s a great alternative to white or brown rice. You can serve it with all kinds of dishes, from stir fries to chilli con carne.

Compared to white rice, red rice has a firmer texture. Once cooked, the grains have a slight chew to them. Red rice is rich in fibre, vitamins and antioxidants.

Use red rice as a base for salads and grain bowls. It’s ideal for pilafs and khichdi, an Indian one-pot dish made with rice and lentils. Serve red rice with jerk chicken or fragrant tarka dahl.

Red rice soaks up the flavours of stocks and seasonings. Try adding herbs and spices and using it to stuff peppers or squash. Or, add it to burritos with ground beef, beans and salsa.
