This organic Flor de Sal salt is formed in tiny flower-shaped crystals, hence its name flor. It is harvested in the south eastern corner of Mallorca, in an area called Es Trenc – renowned for its fantastic salt. This salt contains as many as 80 seawater trace elements, and the level of sodium chloride is lower than many other types of salt – giving it a softer more rounded flavour.
Use it in your cooking, or to season dishes before serving. Or simply serve it in a pinch pot along with quality extra virgin olive oil and crusty baguette. We also sell Flor de Sal with Mediterranean herbs.
The Es Trenc area has been producing salt for centuries. The crystal clear water, high summer temperatures and gentle sea breezes provide the perfect conditions for producing Flor de Salt. The area’s wetlands are also home to many protected birds, including flamingoes.
