About Tabasco

Tabasco has been making hot sauce on Avery Island, Louisiana for over 150 years. The brand was founded by Edmund McIlhenny in 1868. McIlhenny first created Tabasco as a way to add some flavour to the otherwise bland diet of the time, and the original recipe is still followed to this day.

McIlhenny sowed the seeds of Capsicum frutescens peppers and delighted in their spicy flavour. He later used a little red stick to check the ripeness of the peppers, and this traditional technique is still used today to ensure the quality of the harvest. Tabasco sauce is – and has always – been packaged in bottles with a filter, as the hot sauce is designed to be sprinkled, not poured.

Ingredients: Distilled vinegar, jalapeño pepper, water, salt, cornstarch, xanthan gum, ascorbic acid.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place.
