Shichimi Togarashi is a popular Japanese seasoning comprising seven aromatic ingredients. A combination of red chilli pepper, orange peel, black sesame seeds, yellow sesame seeds, sansho pepper, dried seaweed and ginger, it has a moreish balance of heat and umami-rich flavours
Deriving from the word Japanese word ‘schimi’ meaning ‘seven’, this seasoning blend dates back to 17th century Edo (Tokyo) and is now as commonly used in Japan as salt and pepper in the West
Use this shichimi blend to season and add texture on top of noodle stir fry dishes , in onigiri rice balls,and to season grilled meat and fish. Or simply sprinkle over plain rice for a fiery kick of chilli, a bold pop of colour and a texture that crackles pleasantly between the teeth.
Ingredients: red chilli pepper, mandarin orange peel, black sesame seeds, yellow sesame seeds, japanese sansho pepper, dried seaweed and ginger.
