Original Sourdough Starter, 10g
Description
Bread Matters’ original sourdough starter lets you make your own sourdough bread without having to wait weeks for a jar to start bubbling. Refresh the dried starter with fresh rye flour and water, wait for it to bubble and expand and then use to make authentic sourdough bread. Keep a little of the starter in the fridge for next time – simply refresh with flour and water again! Keep some of the starter back each time, and you’ll have an endless supply of sourdough starter – and there’s no need to ‘feed’ in between batches.
This starter comes from a Russian sourdough that was brought back to England in 1990. Andrew Whitley, the founder of Bread Matters, used this starter to make rye bread in his small bakery in Cumbria. He kept a little back for the next batch of loaves, and so on – and then he had the idea to dry the descendant of that original sourdough starter for everyone to use at home.
The inside of the packet is printed with instructions and a recipe, and the cellophane packet inside is compostable so no part of the packaging goes to waste.
Ingredients: organic whole rye flour, water. Allergy advice: For allergens including cereals containing gluten see ingredients in bold.
