Description

Shizuoka matcha tea leaves are grown in shade and stoneground, for minimal bitterness. This classic grade matcha is made from gyokuro tea leaves. They are grown in Shizuoka Prefecture, one of Japan's largest tea-producing regions. 

Gyokuro plants are shaded to reduce the amount of sunlight they receive. This stimulates chlorophyll production, giving the leaves a dark, emerald green color. It also reduces tannins, eliminating bitterness.

The leaves are then stone-ground to preserve their flavour. Green tea connoisseurs will enjoy the smooth, umami-rieh taste.

For best results, brew Shizuoka matcha tea at low temperatures. 40-60°C water is ideal. Very hot water can make the tea taste bitter.

Use a traditional whisk (chasen) to create a light, frothy beverage. The vibrant green powder is perfect for matcha lattes and flavouring desserts.
