This Murano glass cake stand has a beautiful blue spiral pattern that resembles a swirling whirlpool. Made in Italy, it’s a stunning way to serve homemade cakes, brownies and chocolate chip cookies. Place it in the centre of your dining table to add a touch of class to birthday parties and afternoon tea. You can also use it to serve cheese after dinner or freshly baked pastries at brunch.
What is Murano glass?
Murano glass is produced on a small island in the Venetian Lagoon using techniques that are over 1000 years old. It is a painstaking process during which a mixture of silica sand, potassium, soda and lime is melted at 1500 degrees. Once it has cooled to 800 degrees and thickened in consistency, it is mouth-blown into shape by the local glass masters. Minerals are added to the glass mixture to create the bold colours and elaborate designs Murano is famous for. Known as ‘art glass’, Murano glass comes in many forms, including tableware, figurines, jewellery and chandeliers.
