Mill & Mortar Organic Sumatra Long Pepper, 40g

Description

Organic long pepper is grown in small scale farm cooperatives in Sumatra, Indonesia. It’s harvested when it’s green and turns dark brown once dried. You can use it as an alternative to black pepper in all kinds of savoury recipes.

Long pepper has a complex flavour. The peppery heat is balanced by sweet, earthy undertones. It has a subtle burnt aroma with notes of nutmeg and cinnamon.

Use long pepper to season stir fries, soups and pickle brine. You can add it whole or crush it in a grinder or mortar. Once ground, try sprinkling it over grilled fish or earthy vegetables like mushrooms and artichokes. It’s delicious on barbecued fruit, like mango and pineapple.

In southeast Asia, long pepper is used to flavour lentil dishes and rubs for meat. Pair it with garlic and warm spices to marinate beef and pork before grilling.

Store in an airtight container in a dark, dry place.
