Laguiole en Aubrac Olivewood Champagne Sabre

Description

The Laguiole en Aubrac olive wood champagne sabre is the impressive way to pop open your favourite bottle of French fizz. A champagne sabre resembles a ceremonial sword, with a curved, dull 26.5cm blade and elegant olive wood handle.

This sabre is crafted from 12c27 Sandvik stainless steel to produce an incredibly robust, durable blade that’s high-wear and corrosion-resistant. It’s important to note that this blade isn’t sharpened – it’s exclusively designed for dramatically opening a bottle of champagne.

This sabre is presented in an elegant wood box and includes a certificate of authenticity.

How do you open a bottle of champagne with a sabre?

Be safe! We love this video for how to open a bottle of champagne with sabrage - it's easy, but you need to take great care.

In summary:

  • Firmly hold the bottle by the base with the cork facing away from people.
  • In one smooth motion, run the sabre up the neck of the bottle towards the bottle’s lip and strike sharply, at a slight angle.
  • At this point, the cork will fly off the end of the bottle, so watch out.
  • It’s vital that your champagne is very cold before you perform this task, as the colder the glass, the more brittle it is, and the easier it is to break.
  • It's best to open the bottle outdoors - the cork and bottle neck can fly off up to 50 miles per hour - ensuring that there is no-one standing where the bottle is pointing. Never drink directly from the cut bottle!

Can I only use it for champagne?

Any champagne style bottle will work. We've tested the sabre on £4.50 bottles of M&S bucks fizz, prosecco, and of course... fine champagne.

About Laguiole en Aubrac

Laguiole en Aubrac brought the art of knife-making back to Espalion in the 20th century, creating the highest quality, artisanal stainless steel knives. The original Laguiole knife dates back to 1829, when a simple folding knife became the talk of not only the town, but the whole country, loved for its practicality and elegant, intricate design.

Fast forward to the 21st century and Laguiole en Aubrac are lovingly creating knives once again. All knives are individually hardened by hand; shaping and fitting are done by hand to the craftsman’s eye.

Each knife is assembled from start to finish in one sequence and by a single craftsman.

All Laguiole en Aubrac knives come with a lifetime guarantee – they’re a name and knife you can trust.
