Description

Nice Cans Smoked Sardines in Organic Olive Oil Sea Salt are firm, moist and gently smoky. The sardines are slowly smoked over hardwood, then packed in organic olive oil with sea salt. Nothing else. The smoke adds savoury depth without masking the clean taste of the fish.

  • Wild-caught, MSC-certified Sardina pilchardus
  • Slowly smoked over hardwood in Portugal
  • Firm, moist fish with subtle smoke
  • Around 20g protein in each tin
  • Skin and edible bones remain intact

Slide them onto hot buttered toast and spoon over some of the oil. A squeeze of lemon and a few sliced pickles work well. They are also excellent with boiled potatoes, white beans or a tomato salad. The bones are present but soft, and the bright recyclable tin makes a cheerful addition to a picnic or drinks table.

Meet the maker: Nice Cans

Based in Ontario, Nice Cans works with tinned seafood specialists in Portugal. The sardines come in three recipes: rosemary and sweet, aniseed fennel; tomato and peppers with a bright touch of apple cider vinegar; and smoked sardines in organic olive oil with sea salt.

Open a tin for toast, salads or warm dishes. Or place it on the table with good bread and let everyone help themselves. Each recipe is made to complement the sardines rather than hide their natural flavour.

Charlotte takes sourcing seriously too. Nice Cans uses MSC- or ASC-certified seafood from responsible fisheries, with recyclable tins and FSC-certified cardboard where used. It is playful food with sound decisions behind it.
