Description

Ground ginger has a fiery, slightly sweet flavour. It’s milder than fresh ginger but with the same warming effect - along with a slightly toasty flavour. It’s used in all kinds of recipes, from cakes and curries to warming hot drinks. 

Ground ginger is particularly popular in Asian cuisine. You will find it in recipes for dahl, stir fries and broth-based soups. It’s often mixed with other spices in rubs and marinades for meat and fish.

Ground ginger is a great way to add warming heat when you haven’t got fresh ginger to hand. The ground spice is quite potent, so use it sparingly.

Ground ginger can also be used in baking and dessert recipes. It adds sweet, spicy heat to muffins, gingerbread and flapcakes. Try adding a pinch to baked apples to serve with ice cream or crème fraîche.
