Jallab Syrup, 600ml

Description

Jallab syrup is a treacly-sweet sauce made from dates, raisins and rose water, which is then flavoured with incense. The fragrant jallab syrup dates back hundreds of years –before sugar was widely available.

Jallab syrup is most commonly used in the refreshing Middle Eastern drink, jallab tea – which is a cross between an English Pimms and a Korean sikhye.

To make Jallab tea, the jallab syrup is diluted with ice and water, and then flavoured with almonds, pine nuts, and raisins which soften as they soak up the jallab tea.

As well as jallab tea, the syrup also makes a delicious ice cream, and can even be used to introduce exotic Middle Eastern flavours to a carrot cake.
