This Fábrica Santo António bolo de mel de cana (madeira sugar cane honey cake) is a delicacy of the Mediterranean island. This sticky and spicy cake is rich with sugarcane honey, nuts and dried fruit.

Traditionally, Madeira honey cake is made at Christmas, in large enough quantities to be enjoyed over the next year – it’s a cake that gets better with age.

Do like they do in Madeira and break off pieces of the cake by hand to enjoy at coffee hour or as a post-dinner snack.

Ingredients: Wheat flour, cane honey, sugar, animal fat (pork fat, acidity regulator), vegetable fat (refined vegetable oil and fats, antioxidant (E-304 and E306)), butter (pasteurized cream, salt, and yeast dairy), crystallised cider, almonds, nuts, raisins, cinnamon, fennel, cloves, nutmeg, orange, salt, raising agents (sodium bicarbonate, dry yeast).
