Upton’s Naturals jackfruit, or jakfruit, is an easy to use gluten and soy free alternative to meat. Jackfruit are in the fig, mulberry and breadfruit family, and are widely cultivated in tropical regions.
Upton’s Naturals use only young, green jackfruit grown in Thailand. Young jackfruit has a very mild flavour, but a meaty texture similar to pulled pork or chicken when cooked. To use, simply remove the jackfruit pieces from the pouch and fry with a little oil and spices for 8 – 10 minutes.
Enjoy cooked jackfruit as a vegan and vegetarian alternative to pulled pork in burgers and tacos. Add to a bolognese sauce for pasta or use to make a ‘chicken’ salad. Make jackfruit the main ingredient in your next vegetarian curry – and see if anyone can guess what it is!
