Make Your Own Mustard Kit

Description

With the Make Your Own Mustard kit, you can make your own spicy condiment to serve at parties and barbecues. Follow the step-by-step instructions and use the spice blends to make different types of mustard to pair with meat or fish. Spread your homemade mustard on rustic ham baguettes, beef burgers and sausages. It’s also great for adding zing to dressings, mashed potato and mac ‘n’ cheese.

The kit contains:

  • 100g brown mustard seeds
  • 1 spice blend for meat (including thyme, juniper berries, allspice and Sichuan pepper)
  • 1 spice mix for fish (including lemon peel, dill, parsley leaves and fennel seeds)
  • 10cl of cider vinegar
  • 1 ceramic pot
  • 1 small wooden spoon

Making homemade mustard couldn’t be easier. Simply mix your mustard seeds with the vinegar, adjusting the mixing time for a smooth or coarse texture. Then, pass everything through a fine sieve to remove any small particles. You can leave it ‘plain’ or flavour the mustard with the meat or fish spice mixtures. The meat blend is fragrant with thyme and allspice, while the fish blend has notes of herbs and citrus.

Put everything in the ceramic pot and leave it open in your fridge for 24-48 hours for the flavours to infuse and the heat level to mellow. After that, you can put the lid on and keep it in the fridge for several weeks.

The Make Your Own Mustard kit is a fun kitchen project for chefs of all ages. Keep it as a rainy day challenge for yourself or give it as a present to a fellow mustard connoisseur.
