Bouquet Garni

A bouquet garni is a classic and indispensable herb blend used in French cuisine to infuse flavour into a variety of dishes.

A bouquet garni consists of fresh herbs, most commonly parsley, thyme, and bay leaves, bundled together, often with the use of kitchen twine, and added to soups, stews, stocks, and sauces.

The bundle of herbs imparts its aromatic essence to the dish, enhancing the overall flavour.

The beauty of a bouquet garni lies in its simplicity and the convenience it offers. Rather than having individual herb leaves scattered throughout a dish, the bouquet garni allows for easy removal of the herbs once their flavours have been released, preventing any potential texture issues.

It also ensures that the dish maintains a clean and polished appearance.

Variations of bouquet garni exist, with additional herbs like rosemary, sage, or tarragon, depending on the recipe.

Sometimes, the herbs are enclosed within a small piece of cheesecloth or muslin for ease of removal.
