Gado Gado: Indonesian Peanut Sauce-Dressed Salad

Gado gado is a brilliant recipe to make your own. Choose which vegetables you want to include: potatoes, cucumber, cabbage, beansprouts here. But you can swap in anything you love to eat as well!

Ingredients for the peanut sauce


Ingredients for the salad

  • 3-4 baby new potatoes, boiled till tender
  • ½ cucumber
  • ¼ sweetheart cabbage or cos lettuce, thinly shredded
  • Handful of beansprouts
  • ½ block of extra-firm tofu, or 100g tempeh

To serve

  • 2-3 tbsp fried shallots
  • 2 hard boiled eggs, quartered
  • Handful of prawn crackers

How to make Gado Gado

  1. Combine peanut butter, sambal, kecap manis, and lime juice for your sauce, tasting as you go. Add hot water to loosen if needed.
  2. Chop vegetables of your choosing into bite sized pieces. Toss in peanut sauce. Add fried shallots, and top with an optional boiled egg.
