Miso soup is at the heart of Japan’s cuisine. It is most often served an accompaniment or final dish in a lengthy Japanese banquet. But miso soup is brilliant as a quick lunch, or an easy mid-week supper, making this a great present for keen cooks, or people on-the-go. 

To make the miso soup, simply simmer a sachet of the umami-rich, dashi stock in water until it has all dissolved. Add a teaspoon of red miso paste and/or white miso paste to the dashi base, and then get creative with whatever other ingredients you fancy incorporating into the miso soup. For a clean, cleansing miso soup, try adding seaweed or shiitake mushrooms. Tofu, somen noodles, fresh vegetables and soy are also a great addition to miso soups. The elegant black bowls make for an authentic serving, and easy portioning, with lids to help keep the miso soup steaming hot from kitchen to table.
