Tortilla presses are the best way to make consistent, thin and professional-looking tortillas at home. The tortilla press, or Mexican hand press, follows a traditional design with a very rustic silvery coating. Do not try to remove before use, as it is to help prevent the cast iron tortilla press from rusting. Give the press a quick wipe before using, but always use the tortilla press with a piece of greaseproof paper either side of the dough.
To use, place a ball of masa harina dough in between two squares of greaseproof paper, place in the tortilla press and pull the lever to press the dough ball into a thin circle. A brilliant – and fun – way of making tortillas at home. See our article on 'How to make corn tortillas using a tortilla press'.
The KitchenCraft Mexican Tortilla Press is also available - this has a smoother, more polished finish.
Please note this press looks rustic. It is made of cast iron, with a rustic pitted surface, and the silvery finish is uneven in places. Please check all the photos to see the finish.
