Tamaki gold sushi rice is a multi-award-winning sushi rice of the variety koshihikari. It is grown in California by Tamaki – a Japanese company that ensures traditional rice growing practices are followed. The Japanese Association of Rice Taste Appraisers consistently ranks Tamaki among the top koshihikari rice growers in the world.
The rice kernels are almost translucent, with much of the solid white bran polished away. This means that it’s not essential to wash the rice before cooking. It also allows each kernel to absorb more water, for a sticky and tender texture that’s ideal for making sushi.
As well as sushi, serve Tamaki gold sushi rice with silky Japanese curries. Or sprinkle with your favourite furikake – rice seasonings with dried fish, seaweed or even eggs and plums – or an artisan soy sauce, and enjoy the sweet flavour of this high quality rice.
In Japan they believe that sushi rice has the best flavour when consumed within the first year after harvest. For this reason, the shelf life on premium sushi rice will appear shorter than on other rice you might buy.
