roy-rene-pate-de-fruit-in-gift-tin
Roy Rene Pate de Fruit in Gift Tin, 360g

Roy René Pâte de Fruit in Gift Tin brings together 30 French fruit jellies in six varieties: pear, apricot, quince, fig, blackcurrant and raspberry. Made with 57% fruit purées, they have a soft, set texture and a sugar-coated exterior. The collector’s metal tin makes an attractive gift, with a box to keep afterwards.

Made in Provence, the jellies are slowly cooked in an open cauldron, left to set, then cut by hand and rolled in sugar. The fruit comes from France, including quinces from Drôme Provençale and blackcurrants from Burgundy. Serve a few with coffee after dinner, or add them to an afternoon tea spread alongside cakes and biscuits.

Six fruit varieties, made with 57% fruit purée

Slowly cooked in open cauldrons and cut by hand

30 French fruit jellies in a keepsake metal tin

Meet the maker: Roy René

Roy René began with nougat, not calissons. In 1920, artisan nougat maker Ernest Guillet founded the Nougaterie du Roy René in Aix-en-Provence to make his own recipes. His son René later revived one of the town’s traditional sweets: the calisson, also known as the ‘câlin provençal’, or Provençal cuddle. In 1948, the family business became Calissons du Roy René, though nougat never left the kitchen.

There’s a lovely sense of place in the ingredients. Melons for the calissons are harvested in Cavaillon and candied in Apt, a town renowned for its candied fruit, before joining finely ground almonds and candied orange peel. Nougat is still cooked in copper cauldrons using traditional Provençal methods. The company’s craftsmanship has earned it France’s Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label, recognising living heritage and traditional expertise.

Roy René is also helping secure the future of an ingredient at the heart of its history. Since 2014, it has worked to revive Provence’s almond industry, supporting an initiative that includes planting thousands of almond trees. Close to the factory, it has established an agroecological almond grove and heritage orchard.

Product formulations and details may change.
