Red hot chilli luxury safety matches put a fun twist on the everyday matchbox. Don’t hide these away in a drawer or cupboard – they’ll look great on display in your kitchen!
The large square matchbox features a bright chilli pepper print with Chinese characters. The design is reminiscent of 19th century tea shipping crates, which were printed, painted or papered with brightly coloured logos and pictures. The matches are approximately 10cm long – so you can finally get to the bottom of that pillar candle, jar or tealight holder without risking your fingers.
The matchboxes are designed and printed in the UK by Archivist. They use traditional letterpress printing – a technique that’s remained almost unchanged since Johannes Gutenberg first invented the printing press in the mid-15th century. An inked stamp or engraving is pressed onto a sheet of paper to reveal the design. The force with which the paper and stamp meet can leave indentations in the paper, giving letterpress prints a unique texture.
