Ferron riso venere, also known as black venus rice, is an aromatic, wholegrain black rice from the Po Valley in Italy. It has a unique fragrance of sandalwood and freshly baked bread.
The riso venere comes with a recipe for black rice in vegetable broth. It is almost like a risotto, but cooked in the oven. The ingredients are very simple - rice, extra virgin olive oil, vegetable broth and salt & pepper. The black rice has such a renowned flavour, you won’t want to cover it up!
Ferron black venus rice also goes well with white fish, seafood and chicken. The rice is also highly nutritious, and packed with minerals such as magnesium and selenium.
Riso venere is a relatively new Italian rice that is a cross between the Chinese black ‘forbidden’ rice and a strain of Italian rice. It turns a deep purple colour when cooked, and has a creamy texture. Black venus rice does take quite a long time to cook – between 35 and 40 minutes – but the results are worth it!
