Donna Elvira Marzipan Fruits Gift Box, 200g

Description

Delight dinner guests with this selection of marzipan fruits. Handmade in Sicily, these sweet treats are painted to look like tiny fruits and vegetables.

Bite through the colourful exteriors to discover a soft core of marzipan. You can enjoy the bittersweet flavour of Sicilian almonds in every bite.

Donna Elvira uses natural food colouring to decorate the marzipan fruits. They look very convincing, adding a touch of fun to your table.

Marzipan fruits are thought to originate from a Benedictine nunnery in Palermo. It's known as ‘La Martorana’, which is how frutta di Martorana got their name.

Legend has it that the nuns used marzipan fruits to decorate empty fruit trees. They were realistic enough to fool a visiting archbishop!

You will find these delightful candies in pastry shops all over Italy. They are a popular treat during the festive season and on All Souls’ Day.

Store in a cool and dry place, away from heat sources.
