Crodino is perhaps the most famous non-alcoholic aperitif in Italy. The aroma is intensely citrussy with a spicy finish. On the palate there are vanilla-like notes at the forefront with the citrus following close behind and spicy, herbaceous base notes. Crodino was first launched in 1965 under the name of ‘Picador’. The secret recipe captivated Italian households right from the start, and soon Crodino was in bars and restaurants all over the country. Even more than 50 years later the exact blend of spices, herbs and botanicals is a closely guarded secret, though a few ingredients have become common knowledge. The spices nutmeg, coriander, cardamom and cloves, along with the other secret ingredients, all lend their distinct fragrances to the sparkling aperitif. The infusion is aged for six months to develop the complex flavours and aromas before being bottled.
