CBL bean paste is a Chinese fermented soy bean paste popular in Northern China. Mian jiang or tianmianjiang, as it is otherwise known, is used in the noodle dish 'zhajiangmian' with stir-fried pork mince, onions and garlic.
With its rich umami flavour, CBL bean paste is a versatile ingredient - try adding it to stir-fried Shanghai noodles, twice cooked pork, braised aubergine and tofu. Or even use it as the filling for Chinese dumplings. It also works well as a base for marinades and salad dressings.
