Activated charcoal powder is the natural colouring you need to make eye-catching black bread, biscuits, macarons and even ice cream.
For best results, add this charcoal powder to your dry ingredients first and combine well. Then add the wet ingredients. If you are using in baking, bear in mind that the colour will darken during cooking. So don’t worry if your dough, batter or mixture looks dark grey rather than black!
The activated charcoal is an intense colouring agent, so a little goes a long way. For most recipes, start with ½ - 1tsp of charcoal powder and mix well to see how intense the colour is. Add more in small stages if necessary.
