Enjoy a slice of pain d’epice – French gingerbread loaf with tea, coffee, or hot chocolate for an afternoon treat. The aroma of warm spices conjures images of cosy Christmas afternoons by the fire.

Although often called French gingerbread, pain d’epice does not in fact contain ginger. Instead, it gets its spicy warmth from a mixture of aniseed, clove, nutmeg and cinnamon. The sticky cake is sweetened with French honey.

Pain d’epice is a particular speciality of Alsace. It was made popular when King Charles VII of France expressed his liking for the spicy sweet treat.

Nicolas Alziari began producing olive oil in Nice in 1868. In the 1980s, his descendants grew the Alziari business by offering other produce from Nice – like herbs, olives and homemade syrups. Today, the Nicolas Alziari company gives you the taste of Provence in your own kitchen with their range of local and family-made specialities.

Ingredients: honey (50%), wheat flour, sugar, eggs, butter, baking powder: sodium and ammonium bicarbonates, spices. Contains allergens: gluten (wheat). May contain traces of nuts.
