Finance Manager


Are you an experienced Finance Manager with a passion for numbers, detail and business improvement? Sous Chef (, the UK's most loved online cooking store, is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to take charge of the well-organised finance function in a profitable and much-loved ecommerce business.

The Finance Manager role

This is a newly created position. You will report to the founder/managers – the Finance Director and CEO – and will be supported externally by a top 10 accounting firm, and internally by an accounts payable executive and a cloud-based and highly automated software stack.

The Finance Manager has four key responsibilities:

1. Robust transactional accounting

To ensure the completeness of accounting records including invoices, credit notes, receipts and statements; and administer duty deferment / import VAT / PVA accounting.

You’ll also ensure robust purchase to pay management and maintain daily bank and credit card account reconciliation. All whilst maintaining a high level of credibility and strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

2. Timely, accurate & insightful management information

Ensure that company financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth. You’ll lead the budgeting process and monitor ongoing business performance, working together with our external advisers to prepare timely monthly management accounts.

3. Financial compliance

Ensure efficient compliance with all applicable tax laws, including inter alia corporation tax, VAT, and payroll taxes; and prepare regulatory filings. You’ll also prepare the returns, and administer payroll and benefits.

4. FP&A: Driving improved financial performance

You’ll contribute to the development of company strategy, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing supporting financial analysis and guidance.

You’ll work to continuously improve the finance function, as well as the financial performance of the business overall including managing working capital.

About you

Must have:

  • You are an experienced finance manager with sole charge of the finance function in a UK business with £5m-£50m turnover, with physical inventory.
  • 5+ years UK accounting experience
  • Part qualified / qualified by experience
  • Fluency in Excel and Xero accounting software
