Use the katazome spiral stoneware teacup to enjoy a relaxing cup of Japanese green tea.

‘Katazome’ is the name of a traditional Japanese fabric-dyeing technique. It was used to create the intricate patterns on kimonos. A waxy paste is pushed through an expertly carved stencil onto the fabric. When the coloured dye is applied, the paste resists or repels the dye, leaving the design to show through. The spirals on this stoneware teacup are typical of the traditional katazome designs.

The base of the teacup is left unglazed. This provides better grip when holding the cup in the Japanese way – with one hand cupping the bottom, and the other curled around the side.

Please note that each piece is individually made, hence minor variations in colour, pattern and texture may occur from that shown in the photo.
