Gilchesters organic strong 100% whole wheat flour is just what you want to make a great-tasting wholemeal loaf. As well as your daily bread, use the strong whole wheat flour to make wholemeal pizza bases and crackers, too.

The strong whole wheat flour is made from Gilchesters’ tall-straw heritage wheat. It gets its unmistakeable flavour from the wheat bran that’s left in with the rest of the flour.

Every bag of Gilchesters organic strong 100% whole wheat flour includes a recipe for a basic wholemeal loaf and tips on how to get the best out of your heritage grain flour.

Gilchesters Organics is a family business run by husband and wife team, Andrew and Sybille Wilkinson. Their farm and mill are based just north of Hadrian’s Wall in Scotland. Gilchesters grow organic heritage grains and use a strict crop and cattle rotation system, to ensure their soil is never depleted of essential nutrients and minerals.

After harvesting, Gilchesters use a traditional stone mill to grind the grains into flour. Stone milling preserves the high concentrations of vitamins and minerals within the grains. All of Gilchesters Organics’ flours still contain the precious wheat germ, so they’re higher in fibre than most supermarket flours. The wheat germ is also a great source of vitamin E and essential fatty acids.
