2. Take your hot smoker to the beach

There’s still some summer left, so get down to the beach while you can! But forget about those disposable foil barbecues – take your Tabletop BBQ Smoker with you for a proper seaside cookout. This nifty portable barbecue also doubles as a hot smoker. So while your ribs or chicken drumsticks are smoking away, you can enjoy your day by the sea. As evening falls, your food will be ready – hot and bursting with smoky flavour. Stuck for inspiration? Try our quick BBQ short-ribs. Or read our interview with David Lagonell, the head chef at Smokehouse Islington, for some top smoking tips.

Acquerello Aged Carnaroli Rice, 500g

4. Make your best risotto ever

A creamy, comforting risotto has got to be one of life’s great pleasures. You may already have your go-to risotto recipe, or perhaps you’ve never made it before. Whichever camp you fall into, there’s one easy thing you can do to that will almost guarantee an outstanding risotto every time: use Acquerello aged risotto rice. Alain Ducasse described Acquerello as ‘the Rolls Royce of rice’, and it’s a favourite of Michelin-star chefs like Heston Blumenthal and Massimo Bottura. So go on, make like a pro chef and use Acquerello rice in your risotto this weekend! Find Acquerello rice here.

5. Get started with a dehydrator

If you love to snack, you need a dehydrator. With a dehydrator it’s easy to make your own fruit and vegetable crisps, or even chilli powder. Simply slice your chosen chillies lengthways and discard the seeds and stems. Place cut side up in the dehydrator for 24 hours at 32°C. When done, the chillies should be very dry and brittle enough that they snap in half with little effort. Pulse the dried chillies in a spice grinder or blender, and there you have it! We also love making these addictive chilli kale crisps – with a bowl of these and a cool glass of beer, we can happily while away a bank holiday afternoon!

6. Plan your Autumn on-the-go lunches in style

We don’t know why, but we’re always more excited to pack a lunch when we have a stylish or adorable lunch box! And if there’s one country that knows how to pack a lunch with style, it’s Japan. Take a look at our range of bento boxes and find one that speaks to your vision of an on-the-go lunch. Then get some inspiration with our top bento box lunch ideas. When the weekend’s over, you’ll be ready to take your new-found lunch box style out on the road!

7. Spice up the weekend with Turkish Lahmacun

Break your meal monotony with a spicy Turkish recipe for lahmacun. Impress friends and family by making the flatbreads from scratch. Everyone will have great fun grabbing their own spicy lamb-topped flatbread and rolling it around tangy sumac pickled onions. The recipe is really ‘hands-on’, so start the fun early and have the kids help. They’ll love squishing the spices into the minced lamb!

American Champions BBQ Rub Set

8. Hack your BBQ in seconds with US champions' rubs

It wouldn’t be the summer bank holiday without a BBQ! And we’ve got the perfect hack to make your barbecue the best one yet – BBQ rubs developed by American BBQ champions. BBQ is a huge deal in the USA. So it’s safe to say that their champions know a thing or two about getting the best flavours from their barbecued meats.

If you love a rack of pork ribs, then you’ve got to try Eat BBQ ‘Zero to Hero’ Sweet BBQ Rub. It was developed especially for pork ribs by Rod Gray – and he’s been named the best barbecue pork rib cook in the entire USA, so you know it’s something special! If the chargrilled taste of barbecued chicken is what gets your mouth watering, try Plowboys BBQ ‘Yardbird’ Rub for out-of-this-world drumsticks. Developed by the championship team, Pork Pullin’ Plowboys, it’s their most popular blend to date.

Can’t decide? Pick up an American Champions BBQ Rub Set to give your barbecue the complete championship treatment!

You can find our full range of BBQ rubs here.
