African chilli coconut relish is your new favourite ingredient or condiment for fish dishes. The fiery red chilli is balanced with creamy coconut, and is the most popular offering from Bim’s Kitchen.

The ingredient that makes this relish stand out from the crowd is alligator pepper. The name is sometimes used interchangeably with ‘grains of paradise’, but although they’re in the same family, the two are quite different. Alligator pepper is very pungent, with strong black-pepper heat. Only a little is in this African relish, but a little goes a long way!

Add a spoon of African chilli coconut relish to a tomato and onion sauce. Simmer until thick, and enjoy as a curry sauce with white fish or lamb. Or, if you prefer milder and creamier sauces, use coconut milk instead of tomato sauce.

The relish is also a great ingredient in stir fries, particularly with chicken and prawns. Stir through spinach for a flavourful side dish, spread over flatbreads, or enjoy on its own as a dip.
