British whole dried kabuki peas or marrowfat peas are the traditional pea for British mushy peas, to accompany the seaside classic fish & chips. Hodmedod's British marrowfat peas make great dips, salads or can be cooked and roasted with wasabi for a crunchy snack.
Nick Saltmarsh, Josiah Meldrum and William Hudson founded Hodmedod in 2012. They wanted to create a resurgence for beans and other indigenous produce from British farms. Their first product was the Fava Bean, grown in Britain since the Iron Age but little eaten in recent centuries. They bought a tonne of British-grown split fava beans, packed them at the kitchen table, and distributed them through community groups and local shops. The feedback was overwhelming - customers loved Hodmedod’s British beans!
Since then, Hodmedod have been working to search out and develop production of other less well-known foods, like "Black Badger" Carlin Peas and Quinoa from the plains of Essex.
